Unfortunately I have to stop actively working on #Metatext for a while due to health issues. I really wish I could implement Mastodon 4 features and squash every bug, but it's not possible for me to do so right now.
I know the app has become important to a lot people, so I'm open to a new maintainer who can carry on its values of privacy and accessibility taking it over if there's interest and a fit. Email email@example.com if you (or your organization) are interested
It's entirely possible for decentralized instances to provide safety, but most don't/won't. I'm super happy with hachyderm.io for example. ♥️👍🏿
But a larger company is going to integrate with the fediverse, and fulfill the most basic user feature request: "As a user of your product, I would like to know that signing up will not expose me to death threats from nazis" 🤷🏿♂️
Then more new users are going to flow there.
I hosted a conversation about Mastodon, the fediverse, and ActivityPub with my colleagues @effye, @mheiber and @judeswae, who set up our corporate Mastodon instance 4 years ago. I learned a lot! https://www.thoughtworks.com/insights/podcasts/technology-podcasts/welcome-fediverse-exploring-mastodon-activitypub-beyond-special
This explains basically everything about Elon Musk's actions. Some of his companies work in spite of him. Twitter just has no immune system against his thing.
Finished reading "Software Architecture: The Hard Parts". It gives a good, detailed overview of patterns and techniques that you commonly encounter when you have to deal with more complicated software systems. I think it's a great companion the the book REST in Practice!
This is informative, and it's also fun to look at - how carbon-intensive is energy generation by region? ("How many kittens were sacrificed in the making of this kilowatt?")
UK is not-bad, but what-even-is-going-on in South Africa?
I've been tinkering with Stable Diffusion and made A #projects Thing.
It's a ridiculous use of something as powerful as SD but my son's super into colouring at the moment and I've been struggling to find new stuff for him. The colouring pages sites all steal each other's images so there's not actually that much variety out there. I thought I'd try throwing SD at it and... it sort of works! The results are occasionally mad but quite often fun.
I love the new #Twitter. From Forbes, the copyright enforcement system is broken and I can’t stop laughing.
“A user went viral for uploading the entirety of The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift in two minute chunks over a 50 tweet thread. While it’s offline this morning, here’s where things get weirder still…”
Wrote a blog on why AWS never dove seriously into blockchain. Features groovy pix from a trip to New York, which is part of the story: https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2022/11/19/AWS-Blockchain
Ahoy-hoy! I'm Ham. Living in rural Germany with my family and a chocolate Labrador.
I'm a software developer at Stack Overflow and have been in this #programming game for a while now. I ramble a lot about test automation and continuous delivery. Before, I worked at ThoughtWorks where I did some coding and a lot of talking.
I love taking naps with my dog, lifting weights in my garage, playing Doppelkopf with my buddies, and citing stale golden era Simpsons jokes.
