reading pre-covid emergency handbooks is weird. Everyone knows where to get masks. Why put it into a handbook? And the chapter about epidemics is too short and should include pandemics :)

Homophobia

Also, a much needed reminder this week as you see NASA go way too hard with the "Webb" branding: James Webb enforced homophobic polices during his tenure as under secretary of state and NASA administrator and we should not be celebrating him by naming a telescope after him. I will only use the acronym JWST until the telescope is renamed.

Highly recommended. Has an RSS feed too.

A lot of software companies went remote during the pandemic but continued the same synchronous agile practices that they had from before, but on video calls.
Asynchronous Agile is a new set of practices for remote-first software teams.

Hey I found an open source menstrual cycle tracking app called Drip that doesn't call home to anyone and encrypts your data on your device. It's gender inclusive and it has a prebuilt version Android that you can get either on F-Droid or on their site here: bloodyhealth.gitlab.io

They have an iOS version but it's not pre compiled. I'll be working on that today so you can get loaded onto your Apple devices, along with the instructions to install it on said Apple device.

Imagine if YouTube was shut down.

It would be a literal tragedy for the human race. Billions of hours worth of creativity would disappear in an instant.

"That would never happen!" some believe.

But it already has.

Remember Google+? All of it's gone forever.

Or remember all that media stored on MySpace? It's vanished.

We must stop depending on Big Tech to archive our data. Their mandate is to profit off our data, not preserve it.

The best part is that, apparently, one side effect of all the notifications going out was that unsubscribing didn't work.

So all ~400k people got… *looks into inbox*

156 emails.

Making for over 60 million emails sent.

Glorious, *glorious* pandemonium. 👍

I was reminded of this yesterday. Seems like a good thing to revisit occasionally.
