We need more public, state-funded cloud hosting options, ones designed to be hosted indefinitely (i.e. 50+ years). Places where people can host e.g. web content without having to babysit it for the rest of their lives.

Commercial entities have the wrong incentive alignment to offer this.

@jcholder When you say "more". Do any exist already? I don't think anything has been "hosted" for 50 years already.

@judeswae We have something like that with university hosting accounts, some of which has been hosting content for 20+ years.

50+ years is reasonable compared to other government infrastructure projects. I'd bet there's a big gap in the non-disposable tech necessary for that, too, that such a project could help develop.
