Can hydrogen be a part of a healthy energy mix? Of course, given certain conditions.
But can it be "the replacement" for fossil fuels? Definitely not. And especially not as a major part of the mix!
I cannot emphasize this enough: there isn't a "hype" around hydrogen as an actual "replacement" for fossil fuels or alternate sources of energy because it's a viable replacement, no, there's a vested business interest of the established fossil fuel industry/energy sector to remain in power as the main source for fuel, no matter its origin, with a centralized infrastructure, monopolistic pricing and control and a "secure" stream of revenue https://toot.thoughtworks.com/@njoseph_1/105418707381115163
"Currently, less than 0.1% of hydrogen produced in Europe is green, produced via the electrolysis of water, with the electricity used in the process coming from renewable sources like wind and solar. More than 90% is grey hydrogen, made using fossil fuels like oil and coal, which emit CO2. This means that at a moment of climate emergency, public investment in hydrogen will essentially keep funding the same old pollutants."

@judeswae I keep coming back to this question myself every year. Especially now being on a sabbatical and missing the professional network of Thoughtworks. But every time I decide against it. Mostly because my experience there (until ca. 2014) was awful. There is also this: https://divinations.substack.com/p/linkedins-alternate-universe
I don’t have a #LinkedIn account. And it’s been harder and harder to keep it that way. From a professional network perspective, it’s a huge #paywall. Without having that access, a lot of the contact information and reference people are sending me is just beyond my reach. And I don’t know what is the right approach at this point. Thoughts?

Seldom have I seen an argument so thoroughly dismantled in just 280 characters.. in this case it’s Facebook’s “Apple’s changes are going to hurt the little guy” bullshit

For those of us who have decided or will decide to move their account off this instance: it works ™️, however, you'll have to hit me up (privately) to "flip a switch" of sorts so you can use the "official" account moving feature. It only takes a minute, but for now it's necessary (working on a permanent fix, still!)
We're all very sad to see you leave, but also understand that it's a part of the nature of the fediverse to consider other parts of the world your home than our neck of the woods 😊
And we've safely made it over to "the other side" with nary a noticeable downtime.
Enjoy 3.2.1!
I'm excited to share my #apconf2020 talk, "Decentralized Social Media vs the Trolls."
In it, I tell how the #Fediverse, a #decentralized social network, rallied together to isolate an invasive right wing extremist group through codes of conduct, human moderators, and strong moderation tools.
Thanks to @ashfurrow, @emi, @maffsie, @catgirl, @laurelai and all the folks who gave me their time and perspective.

Yes, the "#Apple spies on you with app-based hashes sent to their servers on each app start" is FUD (or least most of it).
However, #Apple exempting its own apps from the APIs all applications are forced to use since a while, therefore making it possible for apps to hijack traffic & circumvent the firewall "protection" entirely, is not: https://twitter.com/patrickwardle/status/1327726496203476992
Just like with key escrow for encrypted content: it's _literally_ impossible to stay secure if you break the system on purpose 🤷
Happy #diwali to all. 🕯️
I may need to seriously ask for help tomorrow. It’s been a full month since I submitted my first invoice to a contract I started, and I’m still missing $200 of it when the invoice was supposed to be paid within 10 days.
I’ve now sent my second invoice, but really I have no clue when I will get it based on it taking over a month for my last one.
I have, total, $137 in my bank account.
I need to pay $1600 in rent each month. So I am in a tight spot right now until I can get paid.
covid, very German stupidity
8/8 The website wants any foreigner who doesn’t speak German to go to a complicatedly long-named website, figure out, in German, which of the languages means “their language” .. only to then have you also ENTER YOUR OWN FREAKING COUNTRY IN GERMAN AFTERWARDS (example: Ireland (English) > Irland (German))
And if that isn’t a perfect representation of how Germany’s “digital” response is to pretty much anything, BUT ESPECIALLY THIS PANDEMIC, I don’t know what is.. 🤦🤷
