#Utopian vision of the day:
An affordable phone that runs a full GNU/Linux operating system exists.
People use the device as a phone most of the time. Almost all their personal data is exclusively stored on the phone only. The phones run #P2P apps with distributed backup.
This phone can also be connected to a keyboard+mouse and monitor setup to act as a desktop. These terminals are in a community-owned place. People come and use them whenever they need to.

@nolan Standards work is often also in many cases too privileged to an elite group. You and I have been able to participate because currently we both have employers backing us, and before that for me I was well known enough to be brought in as an "invited expert" to a w3c group (which is comparatively rare).
I'd still like to see a standards body with a less corporate-oriented form of governance.
Polish up your applications, Purism will be posting a number of job positions within the next few weeks. The future home of these job postings will be https://puri.sm/jobs/

@bob I’d also like to add that folks eagerly awaiting SpaceX’s satellite constellation should also be weary of Yet Another Power Player, as that too is a private entity not beholden to the community it serves
We should be cautious of most concentrations of public services in the hands of opaque entities
